Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
This FAQ list should hopefully help you learn more about who we are. If you have any additional questions, we invite you to call the church office at 256-447-7421. We hope to see you on Sunday!
When are your worship times?
We have two worship services on Sunday mornings: Jesus, Jeans & Java, our Contemporary Service, meets at 8:30 am in the Tucker Activity Center. This service features a wide variety of musical styles. We also offer a Traditional Service, complete with liturgies, creeds, choir, and hymns, at 10:30 am in our sanctuary.
Do you have childcare and Sunday School for my kids?
Yes! Children’s Church is offered during all morning services for children ages two years old to second grade. Children are invited to leave with our leaders for the Children’s Church area in Kerr Hall. There the boys and girls will hear a Bible story, sing songs, and share in a related project. Of course, parents are welcome to go with their children if they wish, or you may stay in our worship service. The nursery is available to all children two years old and younger. Sunday School is available at 9:30 am for all ages.
Will I be made to stand up, or introduce myself, or otherwise have a lot of attention drawn to me if I visit your church?
Absolutely not! We respect your privacy, and your desire to worship with us at your own comfort level. We’ll never call on you from the pews, or ask you to introduce yourself. You may be (and should be!) warmly greeted before or after worship by any of the number of awesome people who attend Piedmont First United Methodist Church. But you will never be put on the spot.
Can my children come with me to worship?
Absolutely yes! Although we have a nursery and Children’s Church available for your children during all of our worship services, we also know that you may want to keep your children with you in worship, too. We believe that far from being a distraction, children are the best glimpse we have this side of heaven of what the Kingdom of God looks like!
Do you celebrate Communion?
Yes. We celebrate communion every Sunday in 8:30 Jesus, Jeans & Java worship service. We celebrate communion at our 10:30 traditional worship service the first Sunday of each month.
What do I need to do to be baptized?
Baptisms are scheduled in consultation with the parents and/or the person being baptized, and we coordinate baptisms with our family and church calendars, in consultation with the pastor. You may call the church office at 256-447-7421 for more information.
May I participate in Communion if I am not a member – or even a United Methodist?
Absolutely! Piedmont First United Methodist Church celebrates “open table” communion. “Open table” simply means that everyone–old or young, male or female, church member or non-member–is invited to the Lord’s Table to receive communion. All the Lord asks is that you be willing to repent, and seek a relationship with Jesus Christ.
What is your music program like?
Piedmont First has an adult choir and handbell choir. Practice is held on Wednesday evenings. Our Jesus, Jeans, and Java worship team is always on the look-out for new players and new singers! For more information, please contact us at 256-447-7421.
Do you have Sunday school for adults?
Yes. We have a full array of Sunday School offerings at 9:30 am. In addition, we have numerous other small group studies; some long-term, and some shorter-term. Please visit our Small Groups page for more information.
How do I get involved?
There are many wonderful things happening at Piedmont First United Methodist Church. You are invited to participate in any of our activities.
