“Jesus In The Garden”
Scripture Reference: Matthew 26: 36-46
Introduction: The agony of Christ began in the Garden of Gethsemane.
I. Jesus experienced tremendous grief in the Garden. (Matthew 26:38)
- The grief of rejection. (John 1:11, Isaiah 53:3)
- The grief of betrayal. (Matthew 26: 45-49)
- The grief of separation from God the Father. (Matthew 27:46, Isaiah 53:6)
- The grief of our sorrows. (Isaiah 53:4, Luke 22:44)
II. Being in agony, he prayed. (Matthew 26:44)
- Jesus prayed constantly. (Mark 1:35)
- He prayed earnestly. (Luke 22:44, Jeremiah 29:13)
- He prayed persistently. (Matthew 26:44)
III. Jesus called for prayer partners. (Matthew 26:38)
- Jesus needed others to “pray with him.” (Matthew 26: 38,40)
- The disciples needed to pray. (Matthew 26:41)
IV. Jesus won the victory in the Garden. (Matthew 26:39)
- To win is to choose God’s will above our own. (Isaiah 23:10-12)
- Jesus overcame the last temptation. (Matthew 27:40)
