Dr. Kevin Payne

Kevin Payne was born and raised in the little community of Fruithurst, Alabama and was baptized and a member of FUMC Heflin, AL. Kevin began serving the church in music and youth ministry before being called to the ordained ministry of an Elder in the UMC.

He graduated from Cleburne County High School, and attended Jacksonville State University earning a BA in Music. He graduated with the Master of Divinity degree from the Candler School of Theology, Emory University, and earned the Doctor of Ministry degree at Columbia Theological Seminary with a dissertation in homiletics. He serves the North Alabama Annual Conference as a member of the Board of Ordained Ministry, focusing in theology, and serves as the dean of the Conference Licensing School.

Along with his congregational ministry, Kevin also serves as a chaplain the United States Navy Reserve. He is currently assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 14 – the Fighting Seabees, as their battalion chaplain. His station is at Naval Construction Battalion Center Gulfport, MS.

Kevin met the love of his life, Melissa, at JSU through their participation in the Marching Southerners. Melissa earned her BA in music Education, and teaches choral music at Alexandria. She is originally from Ashland, AL. They have been married for 14 years, and have two children: Benjamin and Robyn.
