Greetings to Piedmont First:

My name is Ron McKay. I prefer to be called “Ron” or “Brother Ron.” “Rev. McKay”
is just too formal for me.

I born and raised in Birmingham and was a member of Taylor Memorial U.M.C. I went
to Birmingham-Southern College and Candler School of Theology at Emory University. While I was in college, I worked with the children and youth at Taylor Memorial. While I was in seminary, I was the youth director at Pleasant Grove U.M.C. in Birmingham. I served in the Florence District for seven years. I was the associate minister at North Wood U.M.C. in Florence for three years before moving to Sheffield as pastor of Highland U.M.C., where I served for four years. In 1994, I moved to Tuscaloosa and served at Taylorville U.M.C. for five years. I served Ford’s Chapel U.M.C. near Huntsville for seven years. I moved to Decatur and served St. Luke U.M.C. for four years. I have served Trinity UMC in Tuscaloosa for two years. Due to their financial situation, they had to step back and cut salaries. I volunteered to seek another appointment, rather than cut much needed staff.

In December of 1991, Lee, my son, was born. Lee works at Food World in Decatur and plans to go back to school in the near future.  In February of 1994, on Valentine’s Day, Katie came into the world. Katie will be a freshman at Jacksonville State University in the fall. She will be in the color guard and is seeking a nursing degree.

While living in the Huntsville area, the superintendent of the Madison County School system created a parent advisory board to get input from parents across the county. I was asked to serve on that board and was elected president for several years, until I moved. They crowned me king as a going away gesture! I was blessed to serve as the Spiritual Director of the New Life Emmaus Community which meets here in Decatur.  I attended New Life Emmaus Walk 1 in Cullman in 2003. I also  served as a volunteer chaplain at Decatur General Hospital during my time in Decatur.
Piedmont FUMC has much potential. Let’s work together as we let God lead us forward!

Please pray for me as I pray for you.
Bro. Ron
